Your Village administration frequently receives and reviews requests to forward messages via the Glendale email news system. Yesterday, one of these requests pertaining to a new organization (GOFACT) was forwarded to subscribers via the Village email system. At the time of the transmission, it was believed that the email was of a public notice nature. However, it was later discovered that the message contained a link of a political nature. The Village administration and government do not in any way endorse or affiliate themselves with messages of this nature and the email was sent in error. A sincere apology is extended for this oversight.

One of our residents has found a male cat in their yard. The cat looks as if he is very well taken care of and may have just gotten out of someone's home. If anyone is missing a cat, please contact the police department at 771-7645 as soon as possible.

Local Filmmakers�� short film to be shown at the Train Depot Museum today, Thursday August 19th between 2pm and 3pm.

Dan Denegre and his crew of Flying Pig Productions were part of the Cincinnati 48 hour film competition. Their short film �Trainwrecks� was filmed exclusively in Glendale. They have 48 hours to write, film, edit and turn in a finished product which must be 5 -7 minutes.

The crew drew the category �Romance� and started their creative talents from there. Come and see this 7 minute short romantic comedy at the train museum. Many businesses and residents can be spotted.

We will run it about 4 times between 2pm and 3pm while the museum is open.

Glendale Youth Sports Announcements

Glendale Residents,

Glendale Youth Sports has extended the registration deadline for the Fall soccer season to August 6th at 4:30pm. There are still spots open at all age levels. If you have a child interested in playing, please completed a registration form and return it to The Village Office by the deadline. The registration forms can be obtained online at

www.glendaleyouthsports.com or at The Village Office.

Practices will begin the week of August 9th.

In addition, GYS has organized a uniform return, trophy, and team picture pick up night on Thursday, August 5th, from 6pm-8pm at Summit Park. If your family has a baseball, basketball, or soccer uniform from any season or year, please stop up to Summit Park and return it to the Board members. If you were not able to attend the Spring Banquet, stop by Summit Park to collect your child's trophy or pictures which will also be available to pick up. Registration forms will be available here as well.

Glendale Holiday Home Tour

The Harry Whiting Brown Community Center will be hosting its bi-annual Glendale Holiday Home Tour in December this year. We are seeking homeowners who love to decorate their home for the holidays and would be interested in being on the tour. Homes of all sizes and ages are included on the Holiday Home Tour. Glendale Code Red Non-Emergency Message

Good afternoon. This is a Glendale Code Red Non-Emergency message. We would like to take this opportunity to inform you of two Glendale construction projects.

The Village Square: This week the reconstruction of the Village Square begins. This is a $784,000 Traffic Enhancement grant project that is being funded primarily by the State of Ohio. Our match share is approximately $150,000. Construction is scheduled to conclude on October 25th if not sooner. The project includes new wider sidewalks with pavers, seating, new curbing, storm water drains, new sidewalk trees, adding electrical outlets to all areas, new lighting, drinking fountains, lengthening the island garden area, repaving the street and more. The plans and schedule are available in the Village Office for your review. The Square will remain accessible during construction and your Glendale merchants will be open. Make a point of visiting your Village Square, check out the construction and shop your favorite Glendale merchants.

Sharon Avenue: Several weeks ago work began on Sharon Avenue between the railroad tracks and Morse Avenue. This work includes new curbing, storm water drains, grinding/leveling of the road surface and repaving. The road will remain open during construction. This is a $250,000 Stimulus Grant Project with no matching share and it is scheduled to be completed over the next two weeks.

Village of Glendale business proudly hosts Flying Pig Films for their debut in The Cincinnati 48 Hour Film Project

Exclusively filmed in Glendale, Flying Pig Films will be presenting "Trainwrecks" for the business owners who graciously opened their doors to allow this filmmaking team access to so many locations. Also to all those who stumbled upon the filming last Saturday and would like to see the results. Look for some residents and police who have shown up in the film. Director Dan Denegre will be there to share his experience.
Airing at 6pm upstairs in the Cock and Bull on Wednesday July 28th (Discretion advised based on some language)
Screenings for all films are being held this weekend at the Cincinnati Art Museum. "Trainwrecks" will be aired at 8pm Saturday and 12:30 Sunday.

According to Glendale Police Chief Dave Warman, the class was extremely well received last year and was attended by a wide range of persons interested in learning about the basics of firearm safety within the home, which is the main focus of the class. Chief Warman stated, "The class is open to the public and is free of charge. Based on the response to the class held last July, I would recommend registering early, because there are a limited number of openings available." Chief Warman stated further, "While this is not a certification course, we will provide information on how to obtain a concealed carry permit in Ohio. Free Paper & Document Shredding Day
Saturday, August 14th 9am to Noon

On Saturday, August 14th the Village of Glendale will provide free document and paper shredding. The time will be from 9am to 12 noon and the location is the municipal parking lot adjacent to the Village Square. Shred-Safe, a Cincinnati company, provides this service free of charge and collects the waste material for Omaha Paper, its parent company.

Make a point of bringing your sensitive documents to the Village of Glendale municipal parking lot between 9am and noon. Access to the municipal lot can be made from S. Troy Avenue, just south of the Glendale Police Station. This service is available for both our Glendale and neighboring communities.

Get Fit Glendale 5K Walk/Run

Registration is now being accepted for the Get Fit Glendale 5K Walk/Run to benefit the HWB Community Center. The 5K Walk/Run and Kids Race will be held on July 31, 2010 at 9 am on the Village Square. The race course winds throughout Historic Glendale. Registration is $20 for pre-registration or $25 on race day. Sponsors of this fundraiser are Bullock Roofing, The Allen Company, and Kerry Ford. Registration forms and a course map can be found at www.hwbcommunitycenter.org

Collection for Yard Sale

The Glendale Community Library is accepting donations for a community Yard Sale which is to be held on Saturday, August 7th. All proceeds from the sale of items given to the Library will benefit the Library operations.

The Library is looking for donations of everyday items, such as toys, sporting goods, furniture, kitchen equipment, tools, music and movie CDs, etc. The Glendale Community Library is part of a 501C3 non profit organization, so all contributions are tax deductible.

The Yard Sale scheduled for August 7th will take place from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the Scout House and on the lawn in front of the HWB Community Center.

Anyone interested in donating items for the Library's benefit should drop off their items on Friday, August 6th. Drop off times are from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and again between 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

We also need people to work at the Yard Sale. If you enjoy coming up to the Library and feel it has enriched your family�s life or the Village in general, we�re really hoping you can give us an hour.

Please pick from the following �opportunities�:

* On Friday, August 6th -- from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM we need people to be at the Scout House to accept items being dropped off for the Yard Sale.

* On Saturday, August 7th -- from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM we need people to help set up our tables -- from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM we need people to work hour shifts at the sale tables -- from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM we need people to help clean up the sale area

Shakespeare in the Park

Mark your calendars! Continuing a Glendale tradition of Shakespeare in the Park, the public is invited to come watch one of Shakespeare's best known comedies. On Saturday, July 24th, Glendale will have its fourth outdoor presentation performed by the renowned Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. This year's offering is �A Midsummer Night's Dream�. The play will begin at 7:00 PM on the lawn beside the HWB building. The Harry Whiting Brown Community Center and the Village of Glendale, with the help of Cynthia Beischel and Sarah Oliver, have once again orchestrated the arrangements. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs, and a picnic if you wish, and come enjoy what is becoming one of Glendale's favorite annual summer events. Consider placing a carry out order from one of Glendale�s tasty restaurants: The Cock and Bull, The Iron Horse, The Grand Finale, or The Friendly Stop. This year�s fireworks display will be held on Sunday, July 4th, 2010 at Summit Park, Glendale, Ohio and commence shortly after dusk, or approximately 9:00 pm. Please come out and enjoy the fireworks display.

There is limited parking at Summit Park and we encourage you to walk in or park your vehicle on Sharon. The fireworks are free and we suggest you bring repellant and a blanket or lawn chair.

The fire department will be selling hotdogs, hamburgers, pop, and water at Summit Park.

Sealed bids will be received by the Village Administrator of the Village of Glendale, Hamilton County, State of Ohio at the Village Office, 30 Village Square, Glendale, Ohio 45246 (1-513-771-7200) until 12:00 noon on Friday, July 16, 2010 for a 1980 Peter Pirsch Fire Engine, black in color, featuring a 6 person enclosed cab, 5 speed manual transmission, 1,250 GPM Hale Fire Pump, warning lights, and siren included with unit. This vehicle was subject to maintenance and service program since time of purchase to present, was continuously garaged, and will become available to the successful bidder after July 23, 2010. Each bid must contain the name of each interested party and must be accompanied by a certified check drawn on a solvent bank in the amount of $100 as a refundable guarantee of intent. This vehicle is being sold �as is� to the highest sealed bidder. The vehicle may be viewed in the apparatus room of the Glendale Fire Department, 80 E. Sharon Avenue (app ointment only; please call 771-7864 or 771-7200). The vehicles modern firefighting equipment will be retained by the Village and removed from said vehicle prior to sale. The minimal bid amount is $3,500 and the Village of Glendale reserves the right to reject any and or all bids.

Cincinnati Civic Orchestra - Eleven Decades on Broadway

Please join the members of the Cincinnati Civic Orchestra for our sixth annual Concert in the Glendale Village Square on Sunday, June 27th at 6:30 after the Collector Car and Motorcycle Show. The concert is titled Eleven Decades on Broadway – Celebrating the Millennium Plus 10 and will feature a Broadway musical from each decade including Showboat, Porgy and Bess, The Sound of Music, A Chorus Line, Phantom of the Opera and The Producers. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of music with your Glendale neighbors!

The Cincinnati Civic Orchestra, a 50 piece all-volunteer orchestra, is conducted by village resident Larry Bonhaus and also includes village residents Hildy Bonhaus (Cello) and Brandon Cordes (Trombone). Benefits for the American Cancer Society�s Hope Lodges

Piazza Discepoli will host two special wine tastings, on Friday, June 11th and 25th, which in addition to their regular tasting for $10 these unique events will offer customers the opportunity to sample reserved wines from Steve's select cellars for an additional donation! The donation made for these special wine tastings will go directly to help cancer patients! Piazza Discepoli is sponsoring this event in honor of Bob Collins.

The Cock and Bull will be offering a dinner on Sunday, June 13th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. The $25.00 specials will be "The Londoner" and "Lightweight Fish and Chips" your dinner will come with a pint of your favorite "ale" and over half of the price will benefit the "Hope Lodges"! The restaurant will be open for regular business as well.

These two events are coordinated by John Orben, a cyclist from Glendale, who will be participating in the Pan Ohio Ride for Hope. This Fund-raising Bicycling Event for the American Cancer Society, starts in Cleveland on July 29 and ends in Cincinnati, on August 1.

We hope that you will consider attending these events to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodges.

Glendale residents' connections with the Cincinnati Fringe Festival

There are three women in Glendale involved in two of the original plays to be performed in The Cincinnati Fringe Festival, a Know Theatre Production. Robin Kissel contributed to the development and creation of Sophie's Dream (Tangled Leaves Theatre Collection); Robin Carey Allgeyer is the publicity agent for that play: events@womeninfilminternational.ning.com); plus Lynn Murray's granddaughter, Elle Jameson, is an actor in Sophie's Dream as well.

Bett Kooris is an actor in The Global Lovers, produced by Pinata Productions www.pinataproduction.com

The festival runs from 6/01 through 6/12 and both plays will be staged 5 times.

HWB Scholarships

The Muir family (Duncan Muir, his sister, Christy Rambeau and her husband, Jim Rambeau) gave Harry Whiting Brown Community Center $2000 to be awarded as scholarships. Harry Whiting Brown Community Center awarded two $1000 scholarships for consistent community service to Mr. Jeffrey Bailey and Mr. Bobby Cook of Glendale.

Jeffrey Bailey is a graduating senior at Saint Xavier High School. While managing his academic studies, he has coached soccer with children from the ages of three to nine for six years with the Glendale Youth Sports program. He has also been a Big Brother, an ambassador for X-cellence at St. Xavier High School, a 5th to 8th grade assistant golf coach at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, and a volunteer vacation bible school counselor for the First Presbyterian Church of Glendale.

This Scholarship will help Jeffrey attend the University of Illinois �Advocate for Children and Educating Scholars� program thus continuing his work to provide services to young children.

Bobby Cook is a graduating senior at Princeton High School. Starting as a young boy, Bobby has been involved with Glendale�s community projects mainly through Boy Scouts. His completed Eagle Scout project involved planning and constructing the new flag pole placement and walkways at the Glendale Police Station. Bobby has served as senior patrol leader with Troop 417 Glendale, a contributing member of Key Club at Princeton High School and donated countless hours to community projects such as the Glendale Historical Preservation Pancake Breakfast, planting trees in the Greenbelt, maintaining the HWB grounds that have contributed to the betterment and beautification of Glendale.

With the help of this Scholarship, Bobby will be majoring in architecture with a minor in urban planning at the University of Cincinnati. Bobby says, �Architecture is turning into one of the big green programs of the future� and he plans to play a part in it.

Jeffrey and Bobby serve as positive community examples. It is the expectation and hope that they will continue serving through their lifetimes.

Glendale Hosts Wine, Beer and Food Festival

This weekend (May 14, 15 and 16) historic Glendale Square will be the site of the town’s first-ever Wine, Beer and Food Festival. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Harry Whiting Brown Community Center, which supports community cultural and artistic activities and programs.

Events connected to the Festival happen all week. Among them, look for:

• Tuesday: Beer & Bites at Iron horse ($25 )

• Wednesday: Grand Finale 4-Course Wine Dinner ($75 inclusive)

•Wednesday: Daveed's 3-course Wine Tasting in their Garden ($38 )

•Wednesday: 5-course Spanish Food and Wine Pairing at Iron Horse ($55 )

• Thursday: Brown Dog Cafe Wine Dinner ($40 )

It all culminates with an outdoor, walk-around tasting around the Village Square. Among the many delicious and offbeat “street food” options, look for Grand Finale’s Bacon Deviled Eggs; Blue Bird Bakery & Café’s Singapore Salad; Cock and Bull’s Shrimp Bisque; Brown Dog’s BBQ Duck Confit; Parmesan Truffle Fries from Daveed’s; and Madisono’s Salted Caramel Gelato served in Pretzel Cone by Iron Horse. (Now, that’s a meal!)

Wash it all down with a couple of brewskis from an impressive craft beer selection that includes the likes of Great Lakes, Smuttynose, Moerlein and Leinenkugel — or a glass of good-value summer wines, like a Martin Codax Albarino, La Posta ‘Glorieta Vineyard’ Pinot Noir, or Tres Picos Garnacha. (Conveniently, all wines poured at the festival will be available for immediate retail purchase at Piazza Discepoli and Iron Horse Inn during festival hours.)

The street fair starts on Friday 4-9 p.m. and continues over the weekend, starting at noon each day and running until 8 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday. Food will run about $5/serving; craft beer tastings will cost $10/six 3-ounce pours; and wine tastings will cost $10/four 2-ounce pours. You can park for $5 at the Princeton schools lot (price supports the high school football and band programs); shuttles to and from the event run every 15 minutes.

USMC Car Wash

As you may have noticed, the Marines from Communication Company, located in
Cincinnati, have been doing car washes at the Glendale Fire Department, 80
E. Sharon Avenue. The Marines are raising money to help pay for this years
235th Marine Corps Birthday Ball celebration. There is no charge for the car
wash, they are accepting donations only. They will be continuing this car
wash from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Thursdays until the end of June. The
Marines from Communication Company would like to thank you for allowing them

The Glendale Fire Department will be walking in the 2010 American Cancer Society Relay for Life on Friday, May 14th and Saturday, May 15th. This is an 18 hour, non-stop walk at Norwood's Shea Stadium, 3001 Harris Ave. The fire department's goal is $1000! Fighting cancer is a team effort. The impact we can make together is much greater than what any of us could do alone. At the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, our team will camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society save more lives from cancer. Shape up with Group Exercise Classes

Lisa Coors of COORSCORE Fitness is offering two classes on Monday nights at the Harry Whiting Brown Community Center. Maxed Out! is an 8 - week progression-style Boot Camp Class. It is 40 minutes of intense strength and cardiovascular training in a group exercise environment. Class will begin Monday, May 4, 6:15 - 7:00 pm. Cost is $80 or 15/session.

Healthy Lifestyles Fitness Class is a 6 week series designed for the beginner to moderate exerciser. This lecture and exercise class is for someone who has never exercised before and may be intimidated to start an exercise program. Class will begin Monday, May 4, 7:15 - 8:00 pm. Cost is $90 for 6 weeks or $20/session. This class will be held at Bob Ronkers in Glendale.

The William B Glendale Festival was a great success. With short notice and a lot of volunteers and support, we far exceeded our goals. Thanks to all of you who were able to participate and contribute. We had many volunteers cooking hamburgers, hot dogs, organizing the games and events and setting up and closing. The Glendale Scouts and Cub Scouts especially are to be thanked for their help and support to William B. Thank you to all who worked the festival for your generous donation of time.

The William B Glendale Festival was very successful in two ways.

First and most important, the festival provided an opportunity for the many friends and supporters of William B to come together and share their hope, encouragement and joy over William B's progress and future. We expected a much smaller crowd as the festival in hindsight was not advertised or promoted as much as it could have been but we did email blast the village through Walter Cordes which we appreciate and was very helpful. However, in spite of short notice people came and stayed. They came and spent 2 or 3 hours talking to their neighbors and learning all they could about William B. Some came at the beginning and then came back near the end with more family. Most of William B's extended family were there, from wide ranging places and all helping and participating. The younger children spent a fortune 25 cents at a time playing the many games, foot races, tug of war, egg walks and other activities. Hundreds of hamburgers and hot dogs were served all afternoon and
prepared by the many volunteers for the festival. The plight of William B was brought back to the forefront and elevated attention. It was a true Glendale gathering that showcased the character and generosity and compassion of the Village of Glendale. This was the greatest accomplishment of the festival and it was non-financial.

Second was the financial success. When first planned three weeks ago, I first envisioned a goal of $500 to $1,000 as the profit. While some donations are still coming, the total profit will be approximately $7,700. And a note on the "profit". There were no expenses. None. All costs and expenses were donated. All silent auction items were donated.

The festival financially included the sale of tickets for 25cents used for the purchase of food, playing games and races, the purchase of cakes and donations. People bought $4 dollars in tickets and give a $10 or $20 and said keep the change. The donations were large and buried in the numbers below. We also had a silent auction and a number of items were bid more than the retail. For example, a $100 gift certificate to Boi Na Braza Brazilian steak house was bought for $175. And then another Glendale patron who bid $150 but lost, wanted one, the Boi Na Braza the next day gave another certificate which sold for $150, so it turned into $325. Earlier today, I delivered on my bike and picked up a check for $225 for a gift from Westin Cincinnati for a room and $50 gift card for McCormick & Schmidt restaurant.

The festival also included the raffle at $10 a ticket of four infield box Reds tickets and private admission to batting practice, out on the field beginning with less than 5 others beginning at 4:50pm until a 7:10pm game, or 11am is weekend game. The raffle generated another $480 for these four seats. Thank you to all who purchased raffle tickets as an important way to show support. The bag of all raffle tickets was taken to William B's house and William B and his mother together pulled the winning ticket with complete confidentiality with my Mom and others as independent witnesses per my rules. We are pleased to report that the winner of the raffle was Randy Green of Oak Street. We hope he takes his camera to private batting practice and posts the phots on the Village Web Site.

This was one of two most valuable donations by the Castellini family and the Cincinnati Reds. If not aware, they lived here many years and raised their family in Glendale. Very generous. The other was Champions Club tickets and batting practice purchased as a donation in the amount of $500. We are glad that with short notice, there was a broad range of corporate and individual support for the donation of silent auction items.

A summary financial report is $2,933 from the sale of tickets for food, games, cake sales and donations when selling tickets. Again, these were 25 cent tickets Unbelievable. The silent auction generated $3,320 of which only approximately $300 remains uncollected and the balance has been paid, $480 from the sale of the raffle ticket and approximately $1,000 in donations received in the mail or separately identified of which about $600 remains uncollected. Approximately $200 in silent auction purchases are to be depositied directly into Fifth Third Bank. Today, my Mom and I made a deposit of $6,630 to Fifth Third Bank for the exclusive use of William B and his family. Adding the $6,830 to the $900 uncollected results in a total to date of $7,730. We are exploring on a preliminary basis the possibility of a private foundation to match this amount which if granted would result in $15,460 available for this cause.

No one expected this tragic situation to continue as long as it has. The family has recently been incurring substantial costs for unreimbursed or inadequately reimbursed prescription drugs which this will supplement. Also, William B needs for the next phase of his recovery physical therapy equipment and services which may accelerate his coming out of the coma. Reimbursement from insurance companies at this stage in William B's recovery is less certain, additional private help is important and can make a difference.

The need is great and assistance is very much appreciated. If you were unable to attend or otherwise participate, please consider a gift to the William B Fund. If you were able to give before, please consider another donation as no one expected this tragic situation to continue as long as it has. This is the time to help William B climb. You can either mail a donation to my Mom at Pam Cheney, 715 Ivy Avenue, Glendale, OH 45246 or make a direct deposit to William B's account at the Village Fifth Third Bank account. All help is appreciated and is important.

The Village of Glendale is small relative to others but large in compassion and generosity. Among the best neighborhood villages in the United States withour a doubt. Many have done a lot but there continues to be much more needed to help this tragic situation.

Dear Glendale Residents, Mark it on your calendar, April 17th we are having a fundraiser for William Breidenstein at the Harry Whiting Brown Community Center. Time: 1:30pm - 5:30pm There will be everything there. We have:

This is on Saturday the 17th and we hope to raise between 500 and 1,000 dollars. This is a benefit for William Breidenstein and all proceeds go to a non-profit account at Fifth Third Bank. While there are attractive items in the silent auction, the purpose is to contribute as generously as possible to assist this important cause.
